About me
I am a qualified English – Chinese translator and Mandarin Chinese
teacher. I am also member of the Chartered
Institute of Linguists. I am one of a few qualified Chinese teachers
in the UK, trained by one of the world’s most prestigious institutions
in languages and culture. With the specific training from SOAS, I am not
only capable of teaching the language, but also of introducing Chinese
culture, and bridging the gap of two cultures.
I offer a variety of linguistic services:

Translating TV adverts from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Malaysia,
from Mandarin, Cantonese, Taiwanese and Malay into English.
- Glocal Media: Translating
into Simplified and Traditional Chinese, or into English, for multi-media
formats.
- Embassy CES, of Study Group:
a worldwide English language training provider. I am the company’s
online Chinese translator.
- Language is Everything (Previously
EITI): Translating for business and the public authorities, especially
education, the NHS and social services. Other subjects also cover
contracts and legal documents. I also work as a telephone interpreter.
Before 2005
- John Man: Academic translator for the book, Genghis Khan, Life,
Death and Resurrection, 2004
- Pro Quest: Proof-reader of the Chinese Traditional script for the
Chinese database, 2004.
- Totem Production: From 1998 – 2000, working on ‘The
Dragon’s Ascent’, a multi-media project on the history
of Chinese civilisation. Subjects covered agriculture, technology,
Chinese and western medicine, astronomy, politics. Responsibilities:
translating interviews filmed in China, from Mandarin, Cantonese,
Hokkien into English.
